The Dragon Hole
Well here she is! The Dragon Hole!
In 2015 I was lucky enough to win a national bursary through Stourbridge College to secure studio space with the aim of working for myself and offering workshops and courses to my community. So in the spring C71 was delivered and we immediately started working on it to transform it from a standard two bedroomed static caravan into a fantastic working space. |
|
Firstly we had to remove the smaller, second bedroom by taking out two walls to open up the main working area. The advantage of buying an older 'van meant we had a lot of stability in the external structure so we haven't compromised anything by removing these walls.
My daughter helped to paint the walls a bright cream colour and within a fortnight we had new flooring in place. This meant a lot of running backwards and forward laden with equipment and books, because as soon as the flooring was in place, I moved in! And the reason the studio isn't called "The Studio"? Well, I love fantasy and fairy tales, and my hubby made me a dragon to hang in the window, so since then it has been called "The Dragon Hole"!! |
We widened the doorway into the main bedroom to open up the space and to allow more light to flow through. This has made the space easily accessible and makes the comfy end a part of the studio. The main bedroom has become a seating area with comfortable chairs and a small table just perfect for eating cake and drinking tea (or wine depending on the time!) |
The space is now huge, big enough to accommodate a jewellery and crafts working area, a place for lamp working, a stained glass cutting area and a soldering station, all of which are separate from each other, but all within easy distances so they can by used easily. I can accommodate up to six people for lessons in jewellery making, two for intimate lampwork workshops, and two for stained glass. This all means you get plenty of hands-on help, with time to ask questions and get the best out of your time here. |
