Well March has been ridiculously busy!!!
I've had deadlines at uni, work experience in abundance and hardly any time to attend to my lovelies in the studio!

I did have time to make some lovely stained glass stars, they are a rainbow of colour.
I am attending my first "not-a-school-fair" fair on April the 9th so decided I needed to show my stained glass skills off for the first time.

Believe it or not I had problems with these deceptively simple shapes. The first cartoon (the name for a pattern in stained glass) I used looked perfectly even, so I only used one of the arms of the stars to cut from. This proved a silly mistake as they weren't as even as I thought! As you can see the star didn't fit together properly, and to grind them down to fit would have taken an age. |
So I had to ask my hubby, who is a whiz on a computer-aided design program, to just whip me up an even pointed star with a single shape to cut from.
Four evenings of working out (plus speaking to a member of the Maths department!) later and I had a great cartoon to use and the results, I think, look fab.
Off to the Psychic Supper Fair with them and we'll see how well they go down. After then, these will be available to order in the gallery, so check that out later in the month.

As for other works this month?
I've finished my Advanced Processes module at uni. (YAY)
This involved making a load of samples, showcasing different techniques in my chosen field.
As you can see I made a few!
The beads in left-hand picture are about a quarter of the samples I made, and of course I left it until the last minute to label them ALL with the glass used, how the colours worked together, problems I encountered, if anything worked well etc.

Work experience wise I have been lucky enough to attend a local school which caters for international children up to the age of 13. I have working across the year groups and have been helping the children to weave scarves on wooden looms, stencilling and painting their happy/sad masks. I've also been able to go my friends studio, ironically five minutes from uni. The lovely Laney Mead of Izzybeads let me visit for a day this month where we chatted about running a business from home, and ate copious amounts of cake, but forget to have seconds of tea! Her beads vary from stunning flowers, through amazing animal portraits to a silly collection of Buxum Babes. I'm sure she won't mind me saying to go and check out her work on FaceBook and Etsy |
So, there it is, a busy March.
I'm not sure there will be a month where I'm not going to be busy, but I can't wait!
It feels great to be going into the studio, with glorious sunshine knowing I can wile away April showers creating lovely things.
I hope you'll join me next month to find out just what 's been going on
